The Cause
Is HIV / AIDS still around?
Though mortality has reduced substantially in the last 20 years, there are still far too many deaths resulting from HIV. In 2022, around 630,000 people perished from AIDS-related causes. Each year there are millions of new cases, most of them women and children. As much as 14% of those living with HIV worldwide do not even know they have it. Our humble, cross-country crew has collectively devoted decades to this cause. Our greatest contributions have been to the AIDS/Life Cycle (ALC), an annual fundraising bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles. The ride raises millions of dollars each year for the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles LGBT Center. 2,500 Cyclists and 700+ Roadies from all walks of life come together and form an undeniable bond as they train, raise money, and ride the 545 miles. Their goals are:
- Provide access to HIV/AIDS medical care, testing, and prevention services.
- Honor those who have passed from AIDS related causes.
- Raise awareness, reduce stigma, and end this pandemic.
In the same spirit, we are taking it further: we dedicate our 3,500-mile ride to raise $100,000 for the AIDS/Lifecycle, so that it can continue to provide life-saving services, education, and research through both the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles LGBT Center.
